Dear Parents of 2^nd – 5^th Grade students:

To encourage and increase student participation in UIL, we have established the following incentives:

• UIL spirit shirt for all students that participate in UIL
• Incentive celebration in December when UIL ends
• Ability to wear FREESTYLE every Monday during UIL season (ends December 15^th)

UIL participants represent our school at the district level, traveling and competing against peers from other schools. Allowing them to dress outside of uniform provides several benefits:

• Professional Representation: Students are able to dress in attire that reflects confidence, professionalism, and school pride when competing in academic and/or fine arts.
• Recognition of Effort: Exempting UIL competitors from wearing uniforms serves as a visible acknowledgment of their dedication, hard work, and role in representing the school. It highlights their achievement in the same way athletes and performers are often recognized.
• Equity Across Activities: Just as student-athletes may wear team gear or alternate attire to signify participation, UIL students should be granted the same opportunity to showcase their involvement.

Some of the benefits of having your child participate in UIL include: building confidence as they develop public speaking, performance, and presentation skills that help them feel more confident in and out of the classroom, strengthening academic skills as UIL competitions sharpen reading, writing, math, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities, encouraging teamwork and leadership skills, developing discipline and time management, and preparing them for the future with the skills gained—communication, critical thinking, resilience—benefit students in higher education and future careers.

Para fomentar y aumentar la participación estudiantil en la UIL, hemos establecido los siguientes incentivos:

• Camiseta de la UIL para todos los estudiantes que participan.
• Celebración de incentivos en diciembre al finalizar la UIL.
• Posibilidad de usar FREESTYLE todos los lunes durante la temporada de la UIL (finaliza el 15 de diciembre).

 Los participantes de UIL representan a nuestra escuela a nivel de distrito, viajando y compitiendo con compañeros de otras escuelas. Permitirles vestir fuera del uniforme ofrece varias ventajas:

• Representación Profesional: Los estudiantes pueden vestirse con atuendos que reflejen confianza, profesionalismo y orgullo escolar al competir en las disciplinas académicas y/o de bellas artes.
• Reconocimiento al Esfuerzo: Eximir a los competidores de la UIL de usar uniformes es un reconocimiento visible a su dedicación, trabajo duro y rol en la representación de la escuela. Resalta sus logros de la misma manera que se reconoce a los atletas y artistas.
• Equidad en todas las actividades: Así como los estudiantes-atletas pueden usar el uniforme del equipo o un atuendo alternativo para indicar su participación, los estudiantes de la UIL deben tener la misma oportunidad de demostrar su compromiso.

Algunos de los beneficios de que su hijo participe en UIL incluyen: generar confianza a medida que desarrolla habilidades para hablar en público, actuar y presentarse que lo ayudan a sentirse más seguro dentro y fuera del aula, fortalecer las habilidades académicas a medida que las competencias de UIL agudizan la lectura, la escritura, las matemáticas, la resolución de problemas y las habilidades de pensamiento crítico, alentar el trabajo en equipo y las habilidades de liderazgo, desarrollar la disciplina y la gestión del tiempo, y prepararlos para el futuro con las habilidades adquiridas (comunicación, pensamiento crítico, resiliencia), que benefician a los estudiantes en la educación superior y futuras carreras.
